- Requirements for Submitting
- Amateur and professional mangaka are welcome!
- Regarding the Number of Pages
- There is no limit to the number of pages.
Please submit at least 2 works if your manga is 16 pages or less.
In the case of 4-koma (four-panel) manga, please submit at least 10 works.
All-color comics must be a multiple of 4 and 32 pages or less. For 4- or 8-page all-color comics, please submit at least two works. - Regarding the Number of Submissions, etc.
- Each applicant may submit as many works as he/she wishes. However, only works that have not been previously published in a commercial magazine are accepted.
If your work has been published in a fanzine, on a personal website, on pixiv, etc., please state so clearly. - [FOR INTERNATIONAL SUBMISSIONS] Regarding Language, etc.
- Please submit your work in JAPANESE.
However, if a JAPANESE translation is not available, please submit your work in ENGLISH. - Regarding the Size of Manga
- Please use B4 manga manuscript paper with a basic frame of 270 mm (H) x 180 mm (W), with a margin of at least 20 mm (H) around it.
Most B4 manga manuscript paper sold at art supply stores have these dimensions.
- Additional Precautions Regarding Manga Production
- ■About Analog Manga
- Monochrome manuscripts should be drawn with black ink or sumi ink.
- Color manuscripts may be drawn in any medium.
- For both monochrome and color manuscripts, please use dark pencil for dialogue and monologues within speech balloons.
- If you wish to put monologue or other text over a particular panel/art, please cover the drawing with tracing paper and write in dark pencil on the tracing paper.
- When attaching the tracing paper, please be careful not to put tape over the panel.
- Manga data should be created in PSD or TIFF format with integrated layers and should meet the required dimensions.
- Monochrome data should be created at a resolution of 600 dpi or higher, and color manuscripts should be created at a resolution of 350 dpi or higher.
- Creating data in grayscale is not recommended.
- Please prepare two types of data: one with the text in the speech balloons and monologue, and the one without text data.
- Regarding Digital Manga Works:When you submit your work please convert it to JPEG and upload it in the JPEG format.

- Please upload the data exported in B4 size, .JPG format and zipped in a folder for web submission via the "Web Submission Form".
- If your work is selected as a finalist, additional manuscript data will be required. Please be sure to keep the manuscript data until the results are announced.
- Only finalists will be contacted by the editorial department.

Afternoon Shikishou 2025 Spring Contest- If you are sending a data manuscript, please upload your data into a USB memory stick, CD-R, or DVD-R, and be sure to enclose a B4-size printout of the manuscript.
- On the back of the final page of the manuscript, please include your address, name, age (please include date of birth), occupation, telephone number, title and total number of pages of your work, pen name (if any), brief biography, and please tell us where you heard about the Shikishou, and why you decided to submit to the Shikishou.
- If any of your works have been published in a commercial magazine before, please include the name of that magazine, the title of the work, and the date of publication (please note that you cannot submit a work that has been previously published in a commercial magazine).
- Be sure to assign a page number to each page.
- On the front of the envelope, please write "Afternoon Shikishou Award 2025 Spring Contest Entry Manuscript Enclosed" in red.
- Envelopes should be slightly larger than the size of the manuscript. Tight envelopes may cause folding or damage during judging.
- If you wish to have your manuscript returned, please be sure to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the necessary amount of postage to return it to the return address.
- If the manuscript cannot be returned due to an unknown address, etc., it may be held for a certain period of time and then disposed of.
- If you do not wish to have your work returned, please clearly indicate so.
- Bringing In Your Work to the Editorial Department
- We do not accept items brought in from overseas.
- Additional Information
- All entries will be judged according to the same criteria, regardless of whether they are sent by mail, brought in, or submitted via the Web.
Kodansha reserves the rights to publish the winning works in magazines and official websites, as well as the rights to publish a book of the winning works.
Please note that works that have received [Honorable Mentions] and above rewards will be published in "Comic DAYS".
Please refrain from submitting the same work to other newcomer awards (not limited to print media) before the results are announced.
